Do the Best at Work
CY2024 Work Summary and Plan. In the past month, I have spend a lot of time summarizing and planning this year’s work for teams at all levels. I don’t want to talk too much about the specifics, after all, doing well in such matters is no longer a challenge for me. Focusing on doing a specific task, I have overlooked crucial aspects like trends, opportunities, impacts, and my own future.
What’s the potential career advancement opportunities for a CISO? During a private CISO conference in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, I raised the question for discussion. Based on my observations, there are no CISOs in China who have become the CTOs or CEOs (excluding those who have stated their own companies). Howover, other technical areas like R&D, algorithms, and product often seen people advancing to CEO positions at significant rates. Can a CISO from a small company grow into a CISO at a large company? Can a CISO from a large company advance to a broader security role, such as CRO? I didn’t get an answer, everyone is focused on their own challenges.
Jack Ma Spoke at Ant Group’s 20th Anniversary. December 8th is Ant Group’s 20th anniversary, and the company organized an event to celebrate it. Jack Ma, who had not appeared publicly for many years, came out to share his insights with us. Over the past 20 years, we has create Alipay, Yu’e Bao, and Ant Forest out of nothing, and today he is here for the next 20 years. In the next 20 years, the massive changes driven by the AI era that will exceed everyone’s imagination. AI will be an even greater era, changing everything but not determinming everything. We need to create truly valuable and unique things for this upcoming age.
- At this critical moment, the company made numerous management adjustments. The CEO of Alipay was promoted to President of Ant Group, a CFO from Cainiao Network was brought in, the digital payment and digital connectivity businesses were separated, and adjustments were made for the CTO position.
Outstanding new graduates are offered very high salaries. Recently, I discussed the salaries for new graduates and learned about other companies’s offers. An outstanding incoming master’s graduate in information security can earn a monthly salary of 40k RMB, not including signing bonuses and year-end bonuses. While not everyone or every company can offer such a salary, this compensation package still surprised me. Keep in mind that even highly experienced and excellent graduates who have been working for years do not earn such high salaries, and it took me six years to reach that level. The trend is very important. a rapidly growing business can offer higher salaries, faster promotions, larger teams, more resources, and better business development, creating a positive cycle.
Get anonymous lables from coworkers about you. Recently, in a gathering with manager and my team, we played this game. Each person drew a self-portrait and signed it on a piece of paper. With eyes closed, others wrote tags on the paper. Finally, they had to choose one tag that best described them and another that did not fit them at all, and guess who wrote each tag. This game helped everyone refresh their impressions of each other and significantly increased mutual understanding within the team.
Condense the Most Useful Knowledge
Alipay Cybersecurity Defense System. I have been contemplating and experimenting with different ways to accumulate knowledge, such as question-and-answer formats or tree-like structures, but none seem satisfactory. I realized that knowledge needs to be tied to specific scenarios to generate value. Therefore, I plan to use the Alipay scenario and focus on cybersecurity knoledge to develop a comprehensive security defense system for Alipay. I will start with stop-level design and gradully refine details.

The Most Comfortable Life
Baseboard Heater. With colder weather recently, even though I have an independent air conditioner in my workspace, my feet still feel cold. So I moved in a baseboard heater. It feels like standing next to the warm fire pot from when I was a child in countryside.
Drink Water More Conveniently. Getting up to pour water in the cold living room outside my workspace has always been a barrier to drinking enough water, although it does get me out of my seat more often. However, not having enough water is a bigger issue for me. So I bought a desktop water dispenser that connects to a large water jug. In the last month, my water intake has at least doubled.

Travel Around the World
Tongxiang, Jiaxing, Zhejiang. After an hour-long drive off the highway, we arrived at a beautiful place that covers hundreds of acres with straw huts, ponds, streams, and various vegetables and animals, which tasted delicious. The accommodation was well-decorated, making it feel like a real Shangri-La. I look forward to having my own piece of land someday and creating my own Shangri-La.
Moganshan, Huzhou, Zhejiang. It took about an hour by car to get there, and the hotel are made up of individual villas, with mountains behind them and a river in front. There is also a comping area nearby. I rode my bike for 15 kilometers through several villages that were very clean and quiet, reminiscent of rural areas in developed countries like Japan or Europe. If I had an independent house here, commuting to work within an hour’s drive would be a viable option.
Shenzhen, Guangdong. I was invited to attend a private CISO meeting in Shenzhen. My hotel room overlooked a golf course, and the Cantonese cuisine I had at the hotel was excellent. I visited the famous Huaqiangbei area, where I finally got to try DianDouTe, which lived up to its reputation as both delicious and affordable. Drinking Tie Guan Yin tea brought back memories of Shishi City, where every household and shop has a set of teaware for guests to enjoy tea together when visiting each other’s homes. I also visited the Talent Park, where I saw Pikachu and Sun Wukong statues, which reminded me of my favorite TV series “Ten Years of Love”, which is based on the entrepreneurial scene in Shenzhen. The book adaptation is titled “Heaven to the Left, Shenzhen to the Right.” Lying on the grass in the garden, looking at the high-rise buildings across from me, I started to wonder when I would be able to own a building like Xiao Ran does.
Shishi, Quanzhou & Xiamen, Fujian. My parents operate a factory in Shishi City, where I spend every summer and winter vacation. Additionally, I went to elementary school there for several years. This city holds many fond memories for me, and I enjoy revisiting and marking each place that I used to visit.

I missed the USD 100 increase in Tesla’s tock price. After an 80% increase last month, the trend stabilized in a sideways pattern. Influenced by my friends, I sold Tesla and bought NVIDIA. Unexpectedly, NVIDIA started declining, leading me to miss Tesla’s continued rise.
- I’m very confident about Tesla’s future and have made multiple profitable trades on it, making it one of my best long positions. Even after a 80% increase, I was convinced that there would continue to be positive developments before and even after Trump took office, allowing me to hold onto the stock. However, I still allowed others’ opinions to influence my trading decisions.
- The main problem is that there’s no unity between what I trust and how I act. When making decisions, I haven’t given it much thought, and my attitude towards the matter isn’t clear or consistent enough. This lack of commitment will only result in mediocrity in this area.
- My income is decent enough that my need for money isn’t urgent, which has led to a lack of motivation to pursue other ways of earning. However, having more money would allow me to achieve my dreas earlier and do more of what I want. It could also improve the quality of life for my family.
- Generate profits in fields where you excel, and within a limited timeframe, concentrate on optimizing your performance in these profitable areas. Avoid switching tracks randomly and limit experiments to unfamiliar territories to a minimum.
I have been allocated shares in new stock. I applied for HKD 12 million across two accounts and made a profit of HKD 33,600. My success rate in winning new stock allocations is 92%, so I aim to maximize my gains by applying for two additional securities accounts next month.
The Nasdaq 100 index increased by HKD 600,000.
Personal Pension Fund. This year, the national rollout of individual pension plans started, and to understand public sentiment towards them, I conducted a small survey within my personal connections. A total of 57 participants were surveyed, and salary was not the most important factor influencing. their decision. Different choices primarily depended on whether they had an optimistic or pressimistic outlook.
- 44 people (77%) did not use or do not plan to use it due to:
- Long payout period for funds received (considering retirement planning too early / servere inflation).
- High uncertainty regarding future outcomes (concerns about the pension fund deficit and principal losses / whether they will live that long).
- It is viewed as a cost rather than a benefit (little tax refund, withdrawal involves taxes, feels like donating money).
- 18 people(18%) used it mainly because:
- High tax refunds offer high effective yields, allowing for investment growth (especially in A-share index funds).
- The total amount involved is not significant.
- They believe in the future and see potential inheritance benefits.
- 3 people (5%) were undecided or still researching due to historical losses from past investments and lack of clarity regarding pros and cons.
Health of Body and Mental
Mini Olympics sports of Alipay. In our company’s small sports event, our team emerged victorious by securing third place out of 20 teams. Everyone demonstrated remarkable potentital. For instance, each person held a plank position twice as long as during training, including myself (4 mins). As a result, in addition to the offical prize money, I personally added an equal amount as a bonus to express my appreciation.
The symptoms of my gout have returned. Perhaps it was due to a sudden impulse that led me to engage in intense exercise for more than ttwo hours, which triggered my gout flare-up. Gout attacks are becoming increasigly frequent, and if not properly managed, they could result in permanent and irreversible damage. Lowering my weight and restoring a healthy BMI, as well as improving metabolic efficiency, will be the most imprtant priorities for my physical and mental health moving forward.
